often with my paintings, i find i initially dig too deep into their meaning and when i bring the results of this thought to my conversations with 53947, he quickly dismisses them, encouraging a new perspective. a place of comfort is one of those paintings. 53947 sits, six(the orange cat) sits perched on the chair. he leans-in, a question—a declaration. outside, the cupcake is taking someone away never to be seen again. inside, all is calm. thin walls separate grand events—all equal in occurrence and importance—interlocked.

six went on a journey to the framework bloom to get a block that would allow him to self-sufficiently make it to the top of the tall armchair (six has no vertical leap and often requires help to get to high places.) on his way through the okeanos, he is stalled by an outcropping of rock. a small conversation with a greeble was all it took to get a lift to the higher ledge. the greebles travel the world gathering garbage and are equally passionate about gathering news. six’s info more than satisfied its needs.

the miledean pen is a 10 foot tall, free-moving stylus that wanders the landscape of worldview. it leaves a black line behind it and people have been known to follow the random lines in the interest of fun. in the side of the pen is a keyhole. if one were to find the key and insert it into the keyhole, the pen world right itself and would draw a perfect golden path to any destination of your choice. few people know the actual location of the key. but the cupcake always knows where it may be found.

having gathered the key from the forever cupcake, six waits on the edge of the great plain for the mileadean pen. the pen travels the environment of worldview on a seemingly random path, leaving a thick line of ink behind it. if the key is inserted into the side of the pen, it will right itself and take the keyholder on the most efficient path from where they are to where they want to be. they call this a golden path.

i recall engaging with this painting with a a general appreciation for the sun--53947 crossing the plains, enjoying the sun’s warmth. the day after i finished this painting i learned of a large solar flare that had occurred the same day i was painting this painting. it was feared it might be problematic and spurred a flurry of speculative news reports on the terror of a solar flare catastrophe. nothing happened, of course, but i remember feeling especially sure there was nothing to worry about while enjoying the sun’s warmth.

i have learned over time that my initial impression of an image is often incorrect.when this painting showed-up, i was deeply engaged with chicago’s skyline and architecture.often, skylines focus on more iconic images of the hancock or sears tower. when 53947 produced this image, my initial thought was to change my perspective-look at the world from all angles, not just the popular ones.upon looking into the aon, i reached a deeper appreciation for its simple form as well as unexpected discovery that it is actually taller than the hancock—a previous held truth was proven wrong—yet another perspective shifted in the fading sunlight

i went on a fantastic journey at an event in indiana.it was there that i met a healer.his energy was unlike anything i have ever experienced and a simple hug brought me more invigorating energy than any cup of coffee or chemical. in the early morning after the event, the two of us found ourselves on the porch with sunrise and solid conversation.we agreed a cast of his face after a night of helping and healing in that morning light was in order.the captured moment of peace on his face seems strong enough to heal the broken glass of the window it is mounted-on.

the picture of the other side of the hill hit me immediately. something on the other side of the hill had deflated that carrot and was gaining as a result. it seemed natural to bring ‘new romans’ into john’s surreal environment. they wait on supports, deflated, till they become buoyant, fed by the carrot. a heavy-handed nod to dali worked its way into this painting.

on the other side of the okeanos mountain range is a large plain. the flat land extends as far as the eye can see. in the middle of this flat land is chimney rock structure with a flat table of rock balanced on top. this structure is known as flattop rock. on top of flattop is longflame and above that, a hole between our world and worldview. this is the hole, or eye, that is partially responsible for the cycle of coexistent exchange.

the forever cupcake floats peacefully in the sea.. every so often, it swims to the shore, where it gently scoops-up a random person. it then turns and floats back out to sea. the person is never seen again and no one knows where the cupcake goes. no one is upset with this. the person being-scooped is happy and consenting. the people left behind do not mourn or grieve. it is simply a thing that happens, a neutral event.

a constant companion to 53947, six enjoys the path of least resistance. this may be attributed to general cat behavior, but may also be the result of the fact that six has no vertical leap. he scuttles about his world, always trying to perch as high as he possibly can in any environment. this is difficult without the ability to jump, but six manages more often-than-not with a little help from others(primarily 53947). if one were to help six from the floor to the back of the sofa, one might notice six has the consistency of a wet lump of orange clay.

useful longflame sprouts randomly in the environment of worldview. it can be harnessed to meet the world’s power and energy needs, it can be a focal point of meditation or a source of creativity. in this case, it is being gathered to be used as a creative tool. 53947 will use gathered energy in a single pulse to burn an image in window glass so i might trace it out.

the longflame of worldview seems to burn freely and randomly about the environment. they do not burn “hot,” but with the same energy we might consider “human creativity.” the longflame is probably eternal, but people of worldview are pragmatic. the energy produced by the longflame may be harnessed and used in a variety of helpful and playful ways. Here, 53947 observes a massive, burning longflame—built to inspire never-ending creative energy.

the air of worldview is full of resonant energy, it flows from the longflame and is released from the bluebirds. it has many functions in worldview and is abundant. 53947 understands how to use it for a unique pupose—the capturing of images onto the resonant glass that has been my canvas for the last 10 years. without this understanding, i would not be doing what i am doing today.
the key and the cupcake

the forever cupcake floats lazily in otherworld, every so often taking someone from the shore, but not much more than that. even still, the cupcake has responsibilities. it knows where to find the key to the miledean pen—the 10 foot tall stylus that draws random lines through the environment. when one places the key in the pen, it will right itself and draw a golden path to the user’s preferred destination

the city is a self-charging battery of human energy. when the longflame of worldview comes into contact with this energy, it “explodes” and creates two after-effects. one: perfect creative human beauty and two: a bluebird. perfect creative human beauty might manifest in many forms not limited-the greatest cake you’ve ever eaten, a piece of art or a book. this moment captured in this triptych (which may be converted to a free-standing screen) is one of intense beauty for me. fire to forge my work.

a view from the cliffs that circle the valley of the city of gladwell. gladwell seems to be a moving city, crawling up the valley wall as it is energized with resonant energy from perching bluebirds. the valley seems to be full of truth-telling iconic, which seems to grow well-into the sea, producing bubbles of truth. the forever cupcake makes and appearance. reminding me that all things are neutral until judged. this, combined with the iconic, suggest to me that not all is what it seems to be. deeper consideration must be given.

curious greeble

the greeble are self-sufficient, self-replicating and self-maintaining. they were initially created by famed inventor 32843 to be obsessed with domestic chores and they derive incredible pleasure from the act of cleaning. they are highly independent and move freely throughout worldview, contentedly cleaning as they go. as they travel, the greeble also act as resources for news from the lands they have travelled-from. this greeble should inspire cleanliness and order.

there is a famous explorer in worldview. he has an unquenchable appetite for exploration. when the okeanos mountains formed so suddenly, he was immediately drawn to explore their new extreme landscape. uncharacteristically under-prepared, he launched himself up the peaks with old equipment—made apparent when a rope snapped in the middle of the new range and he fell, landing on his portable battery—a pocketcity. the structure collapsed and spilled its insides to the mountain soil, reacting and growing into a full-sized city

53947 had a reoccurring dream. he was told by bluebird to pass an old tree and climb a hill. on the horizon above a deep valley, he would find “salvation.” he had this dream for years and years before i accidentally finished his dream in a painting called “same dream.” this dream bird is designed to provide guidance and focus.

three necessary and dynamic forces in worldview. none of which are interchangeable, yet all are linked. water: the home of the forever cupcake—keeper of the key to the miledean pen and neutrality incarnate. fire: the sublime longflame—an endless resource that burns hot not with heat, but with resonant energy, creative and impactful. the air: where bluebirds dwell, a river of movement, the breathing of worldview.

i like to paint my skyline. the towering structures of the buildings downtown have always captivated and inspired me. here is a tribute to my chicago—a moment of light in that perfect part of an active city night.

chicago is a battery of resonant energy. its buildings gather this energy as it flows from its citizens into their walls. they vibrate with potential, the resources for “pure creative human beauty.” it is never far from my mind, that i am a part of this living resource and though the view suggests otherwise, my neighborhood of rogers park is as much a contributor to this creative energy as the tallest skyscrapers in the densest neighborhoods.

at the end of earth floats the framework bloom. the giant blue hand has made all the land of worldview and is often found at the very edge, glowing and humming as it works. six trades a charged pocketcity in return for a block that will let him climb to the top of the tall armchair.

the forever cupcake is a giant white octopus that lives in the sea of worldview. every so often, the cupcake scoots into land and gently picks someone from the shore. the person is scooped-up and carried-off into the sea, never to be seen again. no one is quite certain what happens to those carried-off by the cupcake, but no one is bothered by possibilities. this is because they know the cupcake is a neutral event—it is something that occurs in the world and it is not until that occurrence is judged that it becomes anything other than neutral—in this way, nothing is bad in worldview.

i am fascinated with the concept of “living in the moment. we throw the term around in the hope it will invoke a more present state of being.i had been working with alginate in my explorations and after casting my hand, the realization that i had captured “the moment” in plaster hit me hard.woodworker, scott dermish had been creating with wood since he was a child.when he agreed to let me capture his likeness, i jumped at the opportunity to capture this dynamic individual in his moment.
